Gaumont

Olinda Mano was born in 1911 in Paris.

In 1917 she debuted as a child actor at the French film company Gaumont, not as a girl but dressed as the boy Jean in Judex (1917), the 12-part crime serial by Louis Feuillade.

This fantastic adventure film recounts the exploits of, perhaps, the first caped-crusader, Judex (René Cresté).

Jean is the grandson of the evil banker Favraux (Louis Leubas) and his innocent daughter Jacqueline (Yvette Andréyor).

The popular series was followed by the sequel La nouvelle mission de Judex/The New Mission of Judex (Louis Feuillade, 1917-1918), in which Mano played again little Jean.

Pathé

In the late 1910s and early 1920s, Olinda Mano continued to act in Feuillade’s features and serial films, but she did not play boy roles anymore.

As a girl, she acted in Vendémiaire (Louis Feuillade, 1918), Barrabas (Louis Feuillade, 1919), Les deux gamines/The Two Girls (Louis Feuillade, 1921) with Sandra Milowanoff, and L’orpheline/The orphan (Louis Feuillade, 1921) also with Milowanoff and Georges Biscot.

She also acted in films at Pathé from 1918 on, such as Henri Pouctal’s workers' drama Travail/Work (1920), based on Emile Zola’s popular novel. Her co-stars were Léon Mathot and Huguette Duflos.

As one of the postcards indicates, she also performed as a dancer in stage productions.

Olinda Mano quit film acting in 1924. Her final film role was in Les Vacances/The Holidays (Camille de Morlhon, 1924) with Pierre de Ramey and Bouboule. She died in 1962 in Neuilly near Paris, at the early age of 50.
